Do you know the real story behind this stunning beauty?
At Japan Gay Guide, we’ve always highlighted transgender voices and stories. From icons like Ai Haruna to rising talents like Kotomi Li and Miyu Nakagawa, the latter of whom has even been selected as an MC for a 2026 Pride parade, we’ve continued to spotlight the diversity and brilliance within the transgender community.
This time, we’re diving deep into someone often called the “Fujiko Mine of the transgender world”: Sara Yagami.
Who is trans model Sara Yagami?
Sara Yagami is a transgender model, entrepreneur, and media personality from Aichi, Japan, born on June 13, 1992. She began experiencing gender dysphoria at a very young age and came out during high school. At 18, she moved to Tokyo and began working in the nightlife scene, and in her early 20s, she began hormone therapy and underwent gender-affirming surgery, legally transitioning as well. This period became the foundation of her identity as a transgender woman.
Later, she found success as a business owner, running bars in Roppongi and expanding into multiple ventures. As her presence grew, so did her media exposure. It was around 2023 when she began modeling and quickly rose to fame. Within just months, she appeared in international fashion shows in Los Angeles and Paris, becoming one of the first Japanese transgender models to reach that level.
Today, she is active as a transgender model, influencer, and entrepreneur, gaining attention for both her beauty and her powerful personal story.
Her journey as a trans woman
Yagami’s transition was a long journey shaped by identity, struggle, and determination. She first became conscious of her gender identity at around age four. By middle school, she clearly understood that while she was assigned male at birth, she identified as female.
Growing up as a transgender child in Japan wasn’t easy. She faced bullying and was often told to act more “like a boy.” Still, she continued to present herself honestly to the world. Around age 20, she decided to undergo gender-affirming surgery. At 23, she traveled to Thailand for the procedure.
The surgery was intense. It involved using part of the colon to create a vagina, followed by strict recovery including fasting, limited movement, and long-term care. She later underwent additional surgery to refine the results.
In total, she has invested over 20 million yen into cosmetic procedures. For her, beauty is not vanity. It is a way to fully express herself as a transgender woman. Despite criticism and online hate, she continues to speak openly about her experience, helping others in the transgender community feel seen.
A pioneer trans model

Yagami’s breakthrough as a global icon came about through modeling. She became one of the first Japanese transgender models to walk at Los Angeles Fashion Week, and later appeared in Paris collections. Her presence on these global stages marked a major step for transgender visibility.
She is often described as having the aura of “Fujiko Mine” (a femme fatale character from the manga Lupin III), combining glamour, confidence, and bold femininity. But what makes her stand out is not just her looks, but her openness. As a transgender model, she shares her real life on YouTube and social media, creating both connection and conversation.
Viral success on social media
Yagami also went viral online. One of her biggest hits was inspired by the global trend “Are you Lady? LadyBoy?” where transgender participants confidently answer “I’m Lady.” The video hit over 10 million views in just 6 days. It also gained over 280K likes, 6K comments, and 360K shares.
Many global influencers reacted, including Miss Fame and Kerri Colby, helping it spread even further. She later joked on Instagram that “being okama is universal,” showing her humor and confidence as a transgender creator.

A trans entrepreneur with real business skills

Beyond modeling, Yagami is also a successful business owner. She runs nightlife venues in Roppongi, including GENIE. Such an amazing mix bar.
In the nightlife industry, success depends on branding, presence, and connection. Yagami excels at all three. She has turned her identity as a transgender model into a powerful personal brand that directly drives business. Her visibility brings customers, and her personality keeps them.
Unlike traditional CEOs, she represents a new type of entrepreneur: a brand-driven, social media-powered, transgender business leader.
Her determination to live as a trans woman
At the core of everything she does is a simple belief: “I want to live beautifully.”
For Yagami, being beautiful is not just about looks. It’s about confidence, self-worth, and living authentically as a transgender woman. She refuses to settle for a version of herself she doesn’t love. That mindset shows both strength and a kind of perfectionism, but in a soft, human way.
If you ever visit Tokyo, you should check out one of her establishments: you might just walk away with a little more confidence and a touch more determination.
