If you’re lucky, you’ll already be familiar with femboys, and in particular Japanese femboys. If not, then you can happily peruse our article on the subject here [LINK TO YESTERDAY’S ARTICLE!!! AND DELETE THIS!!!]. But there is one thing that people will want to know: where can I meet femboys? Well, you can try your luck in Shinjuku Nichome, or, instead, you can read this guide of cafes where femboys flow like hot coffee!

Femboy Cafés in Tokyo

Tokyo, as the capital city, is naturally the home of the cool and the queer, and is therefore the home of femboy cafes. Here are a few of our suggestions.

Otoko no Ko Café & Bar NewType

This is a stand-out example of a femboy cafe in Akihabara. A maid cafe, the type that is famed in Japan, that exclusively hires young pretty boys to wear the frills and stockings of a well-trained maid, who will greet you at the door with a “welcome home, master!”

What to Expect

Luckily for us, JGG’s beloved colleague Samuel Cormier gave us a detailed experience piece on this cafe, and what one can expect, which you can find here. In short, however, you can expect the traditional maid cafe experience, but with young cute boys donning the pinafore and headbands, rather than a young lady.

Why It Stands Out

Arguably the archetype of a femboy cafe, NewType is filled with cute, delicate boys with the energy and affect of a sweet maid straight from an anime. Easily with a visit for femboy fans.

Black Magic (Mahokake)

An Ikebukuro-based femboy cafe, Black Magic is an extra-concept cafe: not only is it a femboy maid cafe, but it operates on the idea that the goth femboys who will be serving you were cursed to be girls! So if you like a little bit of roleplaying with your server, this might be the place for you!

What to Expect

A darker version of a maid cafe, Black Magic has a distinctly gothy vibe to it, with both the cast and the interior giving “sexy Dracula, but make it femboy” vibes. If you like feminine guys, cute outfits, but a darker edge, this is your place.

Why It Stands Out

Kawaii culture is rife throughout Japan, and while this cafe certainly is kawaii, it has a little bite to it that will appeal to those who like a touch of darkness alongside the light.

Midnight Escape

Did you really think we’d create a guide on femboy cafes without mentioning Shinjuku Nichome, the hub of LGBTQ+ life in Tokyo? Midnight Escape is a femboy concept cafe in the heart of Tokyo’s gay town with a bevy of beautiful boys, the belles of the ball!

What to Expect

You can expect nothing but unadulterated cuteness! The guys here are sweetness personified, and are happy and eager to serve their customers.

Why It Stands Out

Believe it or not, even in Nichome, femboys are something of a rarity in Japan’s gay town. Nevertheless, Midnight Escape is a haven for anyone who wants to enjoy the company of pretty femboys as a part of their night out in the floating world of queer Tokyo.

Tips for Visiting Femboy Cafés in Tokyo

Visiting a femboy cafe is much like visiting any other themed cafe. Enjoy yourself: that’s why the cafe exists, and its what our esteemed servers are there for!

However, always be respectful. The young gentlemen who put on their finery are here to serve, but they are not here to be abused. Keep your hands to yourself and do not say anything lascivious.

These are our top three Japanese femboy hangouts! Tokyo, and Japan as a whole, are welcoming to all, and for femboys and their fans, we hope you will enjoy your stay!
