"(《世界人权宣言》) Toyama Pride March Executive Committee says the event will make LGBTQ+ people and their supporters more visible in Toyama. Its slogan, “We are here in Toyama” (私たちは富山（ココ）にいる), reflects the organisers’ aim of showing that LGBTQ+ people are part of the local community.
The organisers also want to include people who may not feel comfortable joining a public march. A separate participant-only space will be available for LGBTQ+ people and those who think they may be LGBTQ+ but do not plan to march.

Who Can Join and What Privacy Options Are Available?
The march is open to LGBTQ+ people, supporters, and anyone interested in taking part. Participants who don’t want to be photographed can request a no-photography safety zone.
LGBTQ+ people and those who think they may be LGBTQ+ who do not plan to join the march can instead register for the separate participant-only space.

Why the March Matters in Toyama
The organising committee says discrimination and prejudice against LGBTQ+ people remain an issue in Toyama. Some people may still find it difficult to openly identify as LGBTQ+ or as an ally. The march is an opportunity to create a public space where LGBTQ+ people and their supporters can come together.
Toyama also has a local 伙伴宣誓制度. Toyama Prefecture introduced the system on 1 March 2023, allowing two people to make a partnership declaration and receive a certificate. The certificate is used for certain services, including public-housing applications and hospital visits. As of August 2026, the prefecture had recorded 100 declarations.
The system is not legal marriage and does not provide the same rights and protections available to married couples. It is a prefectural administrative system – its practical use depends on the services that recognise the certificate.
Nationally, the legal status of same-sex marriage remains unresolved. Five of Japan’s six high-court decisions challenging the current law preventing same-sex couples from marriage have found the current system to be unconstitutional. On 25 March 2026, all six cases were referred to the Supreme Court’s Grand Bench, meaning that all six cases are now before the Supreme Court.
