LGBTQ+ Places to go in Tokyo Golden Week 2026!

A Shining New Golden Week!

That time of year is upon us once again: it’s time for Golden Week! One of the most anticipated periods in the Japanese calendar, Golden Week is a time that sees multiple national holidays take place one after the other, in quick succession, meaning that workers get paid time off, and — if they are strategic with their vacation days — can have up to an entire week of work off.

For many in the big cities, like Tokyo and Osaka, this represents a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds and head to more remote, secluded areas for rest and relaxation. However, many of us tireless Tokyoites take the opportunity of fewer crowds to enjoy our home city, and take advantage of special events that only happen at this time of year. So it is that we’d like to recommend some LGBTQ+ events in Tokyo and Osaka for anyone visiting our major metropolises in early May.

And, hey, if you don’t see quite what you want in this little old list of ours, why not let us put the shine on your Golden Week with a Japan Gay Guide Tour? Find out more below!

LGBTQ+ Events During Golden Week 2026

Shinjuku Nichome, the heart of the LGBTQ+ community in Tokyo — and Japan — is very much the neighborhood that never naps, and that doesn’t change for the holidays: you’ll find bars bouncing and people partying late into the night and early into the morning, same as ever. However, there are a few places that are going the extra mile to make Golden Week even more precious than it already is.

AiSOTOPE: Yurupo Night 20th Anniversary GW Special

AiSOTOPE Tokyo Gay Club

Nichome’s biggest club space, AiSOTOPE has different events almost every night to keep things interesting for its regulars, as well as the visitors. On Sunday 2 May, it is hosting a very special Golden Week event: the 20th anniversary of Yurupo Night, a men’s only evening where the music is entirely J-Pop! With gogo dancers Sou, Shuto, and Atsushi performing to the beats of DJs that include Tyme, Naoki, and Yamakawa, it’s sure to be a bubbly night!

Dragon Men: Dragon Manster

Dragon Men gay bar

One of the most popular night spots in Nichome, it’s almost impossible top miss as you come through the “entrance” of the gayborhood, near the gay 7/11, it boasts multilingual staff, a place to dance or chill, and incredible drinks deals. On Tuesday 28 April, the night before Showa day, it is hosting Dragon Manster, with DJ Kenta. This is another late-night affair, going from 6pm to 5am, and also includes performances from taut, muscular gogo dancers.

Eagle Osaka: Starrfukker

Eagle Osaka gay bar

For those making a pilgrimage to Osaka, the Kansai branch of Eagle — fittingly named Eagle Osaka — is holding a number of its trademark Starrfukker events over the period. We’re going to highlight the final Starrfukker of Golden Week 2026, on Monday 4 May. Guests will groove to music played by DJ Harabow and DJ Renmi, while entertainment will be provided by gogo dancers Kobu and Taiyo and drag queens Fanny Fried Rice and Aika.
