Midsummer Boys’ Life by Kaneoya Sachiko

At Vanilla Gallery, we are pleased to present the 2026 solo exhibition of artist Sachiko Kaneoya.
Active as an illustrator, Sachiko Kaneoya has consistently depicted the figure of the everyday ‘oniisan’ — the ordinary young man living his daily life. They capture fleeting moments of daily existence and the subtle humour found in casual gestures, rendering them through their distinctive psychedelic sense of colour and a style infused with light yet unsettling black humour.
By incorporating homage to Japanese Showa-era book design and manga, they have established a unique visual language where nostalgia and novelty intersect. Their meticulously constructed worlds and sharp artistic sensibility have earned them high acclaim not only in Japan but also internationally, continuing to attract a devoted following.
This exhibition will feature and offer for sale a diverse body of work centred on newly created pieces, including pen drawings and other analogue works, as well as digital artworks—showcasing their wide-ranging artistic approaches in one comprehensive presentation. We warmly invite you to experience Sachiko Kaneoya’s bluesy and neo-cartoon world.
