Heated Rivalry: Full-On Gay Pucking

image 3

If you haven’t heard of Heated Rivalry, you must have spent the last six months living under a rink. Its overnight success has been evidence of what many in Japan have known for a long time: there is a huge market — among men, women, and those betwixt and beyond — for gay content that don’t fit the typical strictures of representation on TV and film, which can often be tragic stories of doomed love, or slow, delicate explorations of sexuality. Heated Rivalry, instead, became famous for its lustful, hungry sexuality against the backdrop of the unacknowledged but ever-present homophobia in the world of sports. Let’s take a look at the show that has a two-man advantage over everything else on TV, and beware spoilers!

As anyone who has been paying attention knows, the last few years have been very difficult for transgender people. Across the world, transgender rights are under threat, and while this is most apparent in the USA and TERF Island (formerly known as the UK), Japan is far from immune from transphobia. However, that does not mean that transgender folks are taking it lying down. In the face of online harassment and attacks, the fightback is real, and nowhere is this more visible than in the recent news that trans woman Risa Kawakami isn’t just dragging her abusers online: she’s dragging them to court.
