Yuri Anime About Getting Tipsy!
We’ve mentioned in this previous article that there are a number of yuri anime coming out (no, pun not intended) this year. Today, however, we’d like to focus on Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk. But let’s go into a little more detail on what it’s about! When you can see it! And how fun it looks! Crack open a cold one with the girls, and let’s get a little loose!
Getting Lit, and Getting On it!

So, one thing that new readers or those unfamiliar to the country may need to be aware of is: Japan is a nation that is very accommodating of alcohol. There are even cans of sweet-tasting booze at a strength of 9% alcohol that are sold incredibly cheaply and are described by those in the know as “salaryman crack.”
As such, it is not unusual for young Japanese people — men or women — to enjoyed getting slightly tilted from time to time. And it is certainly not unusual to try your way around various liquors: if you don’t like beer, that doesn’t mean you don’t like alcohol. After all, just because one doesn’t like brie, that doesn’t mean they won’t like cheddar, right?
Well, this anime is going to be about our time-to-time tiddly top-lady exploring different kinds of booze with the head of their dorm, because they both have a certain weakness. Our heroine, Botan Kamiina, has just turned 20 (the age for drinking alcohol in Japan) but is plagued by uncontrollable burps when she imbibes: this is especially pronounced when she drinks carbonated drinks, which is often the case in Japan.
However, her dorm leader, Ibuki Tonami, has a similar, but slightly different problem: no matter how much she loves a drink, she suffers uncontrollable hiccups once she begins to sip from her cup.
Together, the two begin to grow closer as they explore the various forms of booze that both of them could enjoy, without (to their minds) embarrassing themselves. And as they enjoy drinks with one another, they begin to enjoy one another’s company, too.
Along the way, Botan meets other oenophiles — and love rivals — who test her ability to sip when all she really wants is nip. Most of the characters have different preferences when it comes to their tipple of choice, reflecting their different personalities, not unlike perennial favorite Bartender.
When Does The New Yuri Anime Come Out?
Announced on 15 March 2025, the anime adaptation of Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk is set to be aired in Japan on 11 April 2026. Headed by Aniplex, one of the most accomplished animation studios in the country. Additionally, it is being directed by Takashi Sakuma, who has previously directed episodes of My Dress Up Darling, a fan favorite.
When it comes to pedigree and pouring perfect pints of old peculiar, there is no better pairing you could think of. Except, perchance, Botan and Ibuki…
