Chisato Sugimoto
Chisato Sugimoto is the brighter, more outgoing killer, compared to her partner, Mahiro. She has a cheerful, extroverted personality and often brings a lighter energy to their dynamic. But she’s not all easygoing. When her stress builds up too much, she can snap and turn unexpectedly violent, which adds an edge to her character.
In combat, she’s quick-thinking and highly adaptable. She reads situations well and reacts fast, making her incredibly reliable during missions.
She’s played by Akari Takaishi, who gained a lot of attention through this role. Since then, she’s appeared in projects like My Happy Marriage and the drama Mikami Sensei. She’s also been cast as the lead character, Toki Matsuno, in the upcoming 2025 NHK morning drama Bakebake, which is a huge step forward in her career.
Fukagawa Mahiro
Mahiro Fukagawa is the complete opposite of her partner, Chisato. She’s socially awkward, tends to think negatively, and struggles with even basic conversations. Living a normal life in society doesn’t come naturally to her, and you can really feel that sense of discomfort in the way she interacts with others.
But everything changes when she’s in assassin mode. Mahiro has exceptional combat skills, and during fights, she almost looks like a different person. Saori Izawa, a real-life action specialist, plays her. Before stepping into the spotlight, she built her career as a stunt performer, working on major films like Kingdom and Rurouni Kenshin: The Final. She also appeared in the Hollywood production Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, expanding her work internationally. Her stunt background is exactly what makes Mahiro’s fight scenes feel so real and intense.

What stuck with me the most, though, was the relationship between Chisato and Mahiro. It’s not overly dramatic or exaggerated, but it feels real in a subtle way. Their conversations, the pauses, the slightly off timing, it all adds up to something that feels natural. It actually made me want to keep watching them, not just for the action, but for those small, everyday moments.
That’s why I’m really looking forward to the new movie. I want to see how their relationship evolves from here, and what kind of situations they’ll be thrown into next. At the same time, I’m hoping it keeps that same mix of chill, almost slow-paced vibes and explosive action that made the original so fun to watch.
